BriSCA Heritage is an association of Stockcar racing fans, sharing a
common interest in demonstrating the rich heritage that UK stockcar
racing enjoys.
Stockcars came to the UK from America in 1954 but via Paris France,
where racing commenced in 1953. The contact element of the sport
is something that was added by the French promoters, but this Gallic
twist has ensured that the sport of today still features machines with
substantial bumpers that are more than just decoration!
The racing that started in the 50's featured big saloon cars, mostly of
American origin. As these evolved and became custom built
specials, a low cost second division emerged featuring UK built cars
of around 1200cc engine size.
During the sixties, these became known as Formula Two, while the
bigger cars enjoyed the Formula One tag, names that have
endured to this day.
BriSCA, the British Stock Car Association, is the promoting group
which stages racing for Formula One and Formula Two Stockcars,
while BriSCA Heritage takes place at BriSCA venues at monthly
intervals during the summer season for both race divisions.
The Formula One division of BriSCA Heritage stages racing events
that demonstrate the way Stockcars were between 1954 and 1990,
with most of the cars that regularly race reflecting the sport of the
70's and 80's.
The Formula Two division is for cars that raced between 1960 and
1973, when updated regulations permitted the construction of cars
more like those racing today.
